Out in the woods music

Friday, May 30, 2014
I am headed out for my first camping trip of the year, so I thought I would share some of my favorite tunes to listen to. These aren’t sing around the campfire kind of songs. They are songs that set the ambience. You know, sitting around the fire, staring up at the stars and the small sparks drifting up in the air. Maybe with a nice single malt in your hand.

Dire Straits’ “Your Latest Trick” tops the list, but really almost anything off of "Brothers In Arms” is good. In fact, you could just skip this list and go find a nice campground and listen to the whole album under the stars.

No list for camping music would be complete without Pink Floyd. I tossed in The Shins because “New Slang” is just right on late night. I debated between Colin Hay’s "Water Song” and U2’s “Running To A Stand Still”. I ended choosing U2 because, well, it’s U2

Yes, my list does include Toto’s “Africa”. They may have been purveyors of innocous light rock back in the day, but it’s a good song for zoning out to. Finally we have Steely Dan’s “Aja”, which is a great choice. Like “Brothers In Arms” the “Aja” album is just all around good listening deep in the woods.
Your Latest Trick - Dire Straits

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

New Slang - The Shins

Running to a Stand Still - U2

Africa - Toto

Aja - Steely Dan
