6 Soft Rock Songs From The 70's

Friday, April 04, 2014
Ah yes, that innocuous music coming from your mom's radio in 1977. I couldn’t drive yet, so I was treated to mom’s musical soundtrack everyday. I probably know many of the lyrics of 70’s soft rock classics. More than I want to admit too, anyways. Of course a few of these songs and bands made a place from themselves on my music shelves over the years.

I haven't included people like Elton John, though he and Bernie crafted some lovely soft rock hits, that wasn't always the focus of their music. It still kills me that my Mom bought Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and didn't realize that it is populated with street toughs, lesbians and prostitutes.

One band that could of made all six songs is America. I have long thought that America is a truly underrated band from that decade. Their blend of folk rock/country rock/soft rock was soothing and good song writing. Even though I rebelled against that music a long time ago, sometimes one of the songs floats through my consciousness and I don’t have bad memories of it.

So here are six soft rock classics.

Sad Eyes - Robert John
Steal Away - Robbie Dupree
Ventura Highway - America
If You Leave Me Now - Chicago
Reminiscing - Little River Band
Ride Like The Wind - Christopher Cross
