Why I love Resolutions

Thursday, January 02, 2014
In Scotland they celebrate Hogmany and part of that is a resolution. Now, I've heard a lot about them this year- most people thinking they won't do them. I love them and here is why.

When things look bleak- when things are not good (and in Scotland this happened a lot historically speaking) a resolution was a way, at the end of no matter what kind of year you had, of saying I believe it can be better. I believe I can be better.

I've heard people say they won't do them this year because they never work- they always fail- historically almost everyone fails.

Fails at what? Trying? Believing?

Why is it we focus so much on some far away end and not the journey? What's wrong with progress? What's wrong with failing miserably at something but we LEARNED something from it. What's wrong with HOPE?

I resolve to try again. I resolve to believe I can change. I resolve to believe the world has something better for me than what I accepted last year. I resolve to believe I can improve my heath and life.

If you look up RESOLVE it says:
: to find an answer or solution to (something) : to settle or solve (something)

: to make a definite and serious decision to do something

: to make a formal decision about something usually by a vote

It does NOT say "to do something perfectly and have a perfect outcome".

I resolve to embrace JOY this year. No matter what I face, no matter what life throws my way I resolve to find JOY in the blessings of my life.

I resolve to get up.

I resolve to believe.

I resolve to find myself of worth.

I resolve.
