Wednesday Flashback: Johnny Rivers

Wednesday, November 13, 2013
Having xm in my car means I can enjoy listening to the 60's on 6 all the time! I love that era and it's given me a lot of pleasure, remembering the music of my childhood. One person that I hear frequently is Johnny Rivers. The moment you hear a song, that voice, it's recognizable. I wouldn't have been able to remember his name off hand, but his voice is unique and the memories it evokes are immediate. So it was that I sadly realized a lot of people don't remember him.

I think many would remember his music- when you hear it you know it like it played in the background all your childhood. But even on  youtube, his count is fairly low for someone who was so immensely successful in the 1960's and into the 70's.  He still plays today- a singer, songwriter who has a unique and distinctive sound. Even when the British invasion threw a lot of American singers to the background, Johnny Rivers was always present on the radio. We shouldn't be forgetting him now. Enjoy some Johnny Rivers on your flashback Wednesday.

  Mountain of Love
Memphis, Tennessee
Rumor has it, his recording of this put him on Elvis' "shit list". Elvis had recorded but not released his version when this came out and became a hit.
Poor Side of Town -one of my favorites!
Summer Rain- what a lovely song!
Oh and he is NOT in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
