Film vs Digital

Riverside California Sunset 1982
In 2007, I took the plunge and went fully digital. I hadn't been printing my own film for awhile, so it made sense to be able to have the immediacy of digital photography supplemented by Photoshop.

Now, I am missing film again. I would love to have a large format camera or just start shooting in 35mm again. More than that, I would love to have my own darkroom again. There is something visceral about the tactile process of shooting and printing film.

Maybe it's time to get back in the game. Set up the basement bathroom as a darkroom and start shooting film again. I have three 35mm film cameras of varying ages and maybe I can save my money for a 4x5 camera. I am primarily interested shooting high contrast black & white, but having a color rig might be fun too.

I have a Flickr set representing my film work. It is a very small representation, since I lost much of my work in the very ill-fated year of 1989. But that is another story for another time.

All photos in this post are shot by me on film, then scanned.

  1. Beaut images Jay - I look forward to creating a dark-rooom at some stage in the next year.

  2. Great pix - just like the ones I've seen previously on Charimage. Will look forward to the new analog ones!
