Summertime blues

Friday, June 28, 2013

As a kid, I always looked forward to summer. I grew up in Southern California in the 70's and it was a time of barefoot walks, running through sprinklers or jumping into pools, summer romances as I got old enough to care for them and....the lovely summer heat.

We were carefree- we didn't have air conditioners in our cars let alone our houses. We rolled the car windows down, the house windows up, and enjoyed the sunshine.

My kids enjoyed their summers when they were younger, too. Living in the Wasatch area of Utah the days were hot but not too hot, the nights blissfully cool. And that was true in Wyoming. Once.

Now we are all complaining of the heat- the stickiness of summer - the barely perceptible breezes. It does cool off at night, sometimes, but usually not until very, very early in the wee hours of the morning when the clock is blinking blue 2 a.m.....3 a.m... and you know it will wake you at 6.

Sometimes, there just 'ain't no cure for the summertime blues'.
