I can't believe the news today

Saturday, April 27, 2013
Today I toured Derry and was reflecting on the Bloody Sunday massacre and the starting of The Troubles in Northern Ireland. When Bono wrote Sunday Bloody Sunday, he was writing about the senselessness of the battle being waged, though he watched from a distance. He has long reminded us that it is not a rebel song.

Today I remembered those 13 unarmed protestors shot down by British soldiers and how it opened decades of reprisals until, at long last, a peace of sorts was found. We are shocked by the Boston Marathon Bombing as we should be, but imagine living in a place were that was a weekly if not daily occurrence.

I hope the peace can be sustained because I have found that the people of Derry/Londonderry to be wonderful people. No child or adult should have to live in a war zone.
