Today we visited Glendalough a monastic settlement founded in the 6th century. Founded by St. Kevin, it an active monastery and pilgrimage site through the 18th & 19th centuries is spite of frewuent attacks from Vikings and later the English.
It is also a vast graveyard filled with marvelous celtic crosses. While much of it is in ruins, a church remains as does a large tower thought to be used as bell tower
It is filled with marvelous things to photograph and a fascinating history. A wonderful place to visit. Have some more random photos, and we will be back tomorrow with more photos and stories.
