Six Favorite Police Songs

Friday, February 08, 2013

I have been listening to The Police since the very beginning. Well, almost. Since 1979 anyways. I was lucky enough to them in 1980 and on their 2008 reunion tour. They are one of my favorite bands and here are my six favorite songs from The Police.

  1. Message In A Bottle - Reggatta de Blanc: The first Police song I ever heard, or I should say, saw. My photography teacher had it recorded on an old circa 70’s black and white sony VCR. I was instantly hooked.
  2. Roxanne  - Outlandos d’Amour: The first Police album I ever owned. It got played incessantly. Roxanne is one of those classically Police songs. This really may be the defining song on what would become The Police’s sound.
  3. Walking In Your Footsteps - Synchronicity: With the exception of Mother, there is not a bad song on this album. I could very easily picked all six of this weeks pick six from that album.
  4. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - Ghost in the Machine: Sting would go on to echo this song on Synchronicity and his latter solo album, Ten Summoners Tales. It is  believed that Sting had written this song as early as 1976. A catchy little love song that is eminently hummable.
  5. King Of Pain - Synchronicity: Who hasn’t felt like “a little black spot on the sun today”? King of Pain sums up everyones gloom during a bad bout of depression.
  6. Can’t Stand Losing You - Outlandos d’Amour: Dramatic, reggae infused teenage breakup music at it’s best.
