American Bloomers - Part One

We have had this kicking around Casa Blanca for quite some time. I have been meaning to review it, but never got around to it. Until today that is. As I said, we have been listening to this for a while and our pronouncement? It’s good. Really good.

If you like beautiful harmonies, you will like this. I have read a few people that compare their sound to the California country rock sound, but I think that paints them into an unfair corner. Their music is poppy in the best of the ways but can have a hard edge as well. They are a well balanced rock band from the vocals to the songwriting.

The California trio is both familiar and original. Really, I don’t recall ever hearing a band this early on who are more poised and accomplished. I really can’t find any flaws in this EP. It is also exceptionally well produced.

The opening track, Blue Dress, is a standout for me. It really highlights everything I like about this band. Did I mention of the harmonies? The harmonies are what really attract me to this band. I am not exaggerating when I say they get me excited in the same way I feel when I am listening to Fleet Foxes.

Faded, the second song of this EP, has found a spot in my driving playlist as has Shamrock. I was noticing my ongoing, endless playlist in iTunes the other day and almost all of their songs were there.

Siblings Jane & Jonathan Sheldon and Jaime Wyatt bring their poised harmonies to an EP full of standout songs. I guess the best review I could give for this EP is that I have listened to it fairly regularly over the past few months, and I have yet to get tired of it.

Finding this EP was like finding a new friend. The music is warm and inviting. Take a chance and get this one. You won’t regret it.
