I quit my job

I quit my job. It wasn't that I didn't like it. There were parts of it I really enjoyed. It was just a career I wasn't cut out for. Of course, it's hard not feel like a bit of a failure. I haven't quit a job since I was a teenager. Such is life. Sooner or later you find a job that you just don't like. You have two choices. Grind it out in quiet misery or quit the job. Hopefully when you quit, you can find something better.

Today I have six songs for quitting your job by.The obvious choice is Johnny Paycheck's Take This Job and Shove It:
Here are six other songs to hum as you close out that last day on the job.
  1. Job That Ate My Brain - Ramones: With a lyric like this: I can't take this crazy pace/I've become a mental case/Yeah, this is the job that ate my brain; one can understand why you might want to quit your job.
  2. Career Opportunities - The Clash: I know I covered this when I wrote up six songs about unemployment, but very few songs capture the futility of the career ladder, especially if you live in a class oriented society.
  3. Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying - Belle & Sebastian: Play me a song to set me free is a lyric that sums up how it feels when you want to quit a job, but feel like you can't.
  4. We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister: Yeah, turn it up, cause I wanna rock and I am not going to take it anymore.
  5. Monkey Suit (alternate Version) - Pernice Brothers: Put on your monkey suit and go through your monkey day. Another great song about the grind that is having a job.
  6. Lost My Job - Alex Chilton: I know this isn't about quitting, but it has some nice thoughts about what to do after you no longer have a job. A nice blues riff and cold beer is a nice place to start day one of unemployment.
