Used to be for play, Now for display
She dreamed that the world was in technicolor.
No one told her not to.
She believed that the world was her's alone
No one told her it wasn't.
She danced to secret music
No one else could hear it.
She held court with teddy bears and rag dolls
No one else was invited.

Her secret dance in her secret place
where she didn't have to save face
Dancing alone in her very own world
where she whirled and twirled

She dreamed of an purple field of poppies
No one said she couldn't.
She believed that each day was endless
No one told her it wasn't.
She sang unheard of songs
No one else knew the words.
She held her own dance parties with stuffed animals
No one else was invited.

Her secret romance in her quiet place
where she was always draped in lace
Twirling in a distant sparkly star field
where her heart was already healed

She dreamed of a world in harmony
No one told her it wouldn't be.
She believed that she was painless
No one told her that she couldn't.
She hummed tunes from unknown composers
No one else knew the melodies.
She held her own banquets with plastic dolls
No one knew what was served.

Her secret dance in her secret place
where she didn't have to save face
Dancing alone in her very own world
where she whirled and twirled
