Thankful? A Black Friday Musing

Friday, November 26, 2010
TracksI don't pretend to understand the vagaries of life, but a dear friend of mine used to say life was like the oceans surf. Some days you are riding high on the wave and the next you are caught in the undertow and being pulled out to sea.

I always believe that making it out of the undertow requires action on my part. Recent news tells me the next year of my life is going to involve a lot of change, not all of which will be wanted or even expected.

The up side to this is that you figure out who and what is important to you. The down side is that inevitably leave behind things that have been important to you, but they can't make the move with you.

In the end, I am thankful that I have perspective. I have lost everything and rebuilt more than once in this life. Those times have been traumatic, but I wouldn't trade them.

Living in interesting times isn't always a bad thing.
This is blog post 129 for 2010. Only 12 more to go to meet last years output.

You are right about this. Change, even unwelcome change, puts your life into perspective; and I think it tells you a lot about who you are, what your values are, and sadly sometimes, who your friends are. We have some good friends I hope can weather the storms with us, but in the end I know you are there to keep me steady. That is priceless.
