Friday Pick Six (plus) - Favorite Covers of Baby, It's Cold Outside

Friday, December 19, 2008
Baby, It's Cold Outside is one of those songs that has been covered many, many times since it's first big splash in the movie Neptune's Daughter in 1949. Wikipedia lists 39 other notable covers of the song and the list at the iTunes store is also awash in covers, with at least 95 different artists listed in 150 different collections.

All that said, I am a bit of an aficionado of the song in it's many different forms. Looking at my list, you will see that I am partial to it when performed in it's traditional style, but there are some rather interesting covers as well. June Carter Cash's hillbilly cover of it is different, but original, but surely not on this list. The cover on the Jingle Punx album 'It's What I Got In My Sack' is kind of cool, but again, not on the list.

So without further ado, here is my list:
1. The Brian Setzer Orchestra with Ann-Margaret, Boogie Woogie Christmas
2. Johnny Mercer & Magaret Whiting, We Love You Madly, Chapter 16: Baby, It's Cold Outside.
3. Leon Redbone & Zooey Deschanel, Elf Soundtrack
4. Bobby Caldwell & Vanessa Williams, The Anthology, Part 1
5. Danger Radio, released as single
6. Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Jordan, Ella & Friends

Plus 2 More:
7. James Taylor & Natalie Cole, James Taylor at Christmas
8. Ray Charles & Betty Carter, The Spirit Of Christmas
